About Me

Hi, I'm Kev Chapman a web designer / developer from Kent in the South East of England. This is my personal portfolio site showcasing a pick of my work to date.

Since 2001 I've been working for Crow Design, a small friendly design agency located in Rochester Kent. We are a fully featured design agency providing graphic design for print, web, exhibition and multi-media. I'm responsible for all web and screen based media.

My main skills are within front end design & development, building websites from scratch.

I also handle back end development with PHP / mySql.

My Design Style

My designs focus on clean well balanced layouts coupled with practical functionality. My design goals are to create attractive, fast and usable solutions for the web.

I follow web standards set out by the W3C. I love the challenge of using CSS to manipulate well structured semantic XHTML to get the desired results.

My weapon of choice is the Mac, I've been a Mac user since I started my Graphic Design Diploma back in 96. The Mac is a great tool giving me the power and flexibility needed to be creative and get things done. The built in Apache Web Server really helps at the development stage, giving me the freedom to learn and experiment with server side coding.

I use Adobe illustrator to create design mock ups and currently use Coda / Textmate to develop the final build.

Personal

I've been designing for the web for over 10 years beginning at Coventry University when I had the option to specialise my graphic Design degree in multi-media design.

From an early age I've always been interested in Art, design & technology. I feel that web design brings a perfect balance to these core interests and it's great making a living doing the things I love to do.

Outside of design I love music, I play the guitar and try to go to as many festivals / gigs as I can.
